Kindle is the Gift That Keeps on Giving!

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

By now, pretty much everyone has heard of the Kindle.  But what do you know about it?

For many people, the extent of that knowledge is that it allows you to read a book on an electronic tablet.  Many know that you can also download books over a wireless system.  But that is where most people’s knowledge ends.  We’re here to share a bit more about the Kindle, and to gather comments from people who have used them.

First, there is the size and weight.  This isn’t a very big or heavy unit — especially for all the neat stuff packed inside!  At just about 8″ x 5″ x 1/2″, and weighing less than most paparback books, this is a very comfortable unit to hold and carry.

The screen features a non-glare finish that allows reading even in sunlight.  And it allows some things that books just don’t provide:

  • The Kindle will read the book to you using text-to-voice technology
  • You can increase the size of the print or pictures to make them easier to read
  • Don’t know what a word means?  Just hover over the word and the definition shows at the bottom of the Kindle.
  • The Kindle remembers where you left off.  No lost page markers!
  • You can bookmark, search, and annotate any book on the fly

The Kindle will hold up to 1,500 books in memory, and it will download most books in 60 seconds!  That is lightling FAST!

You have access to a selection of over 360,000 books, and can upload them at the beach or about anywhere you’d like without needing a wired connection.

The Kindle will run for as long as two weeks on a single charging.  Try that with you laptop!  Even with the wireless on, it will last for four days.

When I studied the reviews on Amazon for the Kindle, I found that without a doubt, most users really loved their Kindle.  They bragged about many of the features.  The overwhelming majority voted them 4- or 5-stars.

Overall, there is a huge base of support for the Kindle.  If you are an avid reader, I think it is a great addition to your library.
