The SONY BRAVIA V-Series KDL-46V5100 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV is

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Are you ready to bite the bullet and join the crowd by buying your first high definition, large screen TV?  The SONY BRAVIA is a great first buy in the large-sized television segment.  Many people (myself included) buy a smaller sized screen.  I went out and bought a 35″.  What you’ll find is that there really isn’t all that much size difference in a 35″ LCD screen and a larger sized, old style tube television.  The screen is wider than the tube model, but the picture is very close to the same size.

So when you start looking for an LCD large-screen television, is really pays to buy the largest sized television you can afford.  The SONY BRAVIA V-Series KDL-46V5100 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV is a super great fit for the cost versus size decision.  This model can be found for a cost of around $1,000 to $1,100.  (For comparison, the next larger size of the SONY BRAVIA, a 55-inch screen, costs between $3,800 and $4,300.)

Of course there are other LCD televisions in the 46-inch screen size.  Some may cost more…others less.  So what makes the SONY BRAVIA the best choice?  Let’s look at a few of the major features.  (Hint:  Most of the features are found in the name.)

  • The 1080 describes the number of lines on the screen.  Older televisions had 480 lines.  Lower-end HDTV units have 720 lines.  Right now, 1080 is the best-of-class.
  • The ‘p’ after the 1080 stands for progressive.  1080 HDTV units come in ‘i’ and ‘p’ versions.  The ‘i’ stands for interlaced.  Progressive scan is better than interlaced because it processes the images twice as fast. This faster scan rate produces better clarity and color in the on-screen picture.
  • Another thing to consider is the Hz rate.  Standard screens refresh at 60Hz.  The 120Hz rate means that the screen refreshes twice as often.  While this doesn’t make a huge difference, most users agree it is better to view 120Hz than 60Hz screens.
  • LCD televisions use about one-half the power of plasma televisions, and come with many more connections to the internet and video games.  The clarity of LCD is not quite as good as that of plasma, but the SONY BRAVIA makes up for this with some added technologies.
  • Motionflow technology is used to help remove judder in film sources, HD content, and broadcast movies and primetime programming, creating smoother, more fluid motion that delivers a natural and realistic viewing experience.  The reviews on this technology indicate that it makes a huge improvement over those televisions that don’t have this feature.
  • With 7 HD inputs, you can connect your Blu-Ray, a Playstation 3, and several other HD components.  Additionally, you can connect your PC to the SONY BRAVIA to add a totally new experience to your PC viewing experience.  You can also connect you MP3 player via a USB port to listen to music, or view your photos on a really big monitor!

As you can see, the SONY BRAVIA will provide you with a reasonable level of the newest technologies at an affordable price.  These features make the SONY BRAVIA an ideal choice for watching fast-action sports, movies and video games.  That makes it a great pick for us here at Thing-Finder.com!

I’d Kill for a Cup of Coffee Right Now!

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Enter the Keurig B40 Elite Gourmet Single-Cup Home-Brewing System.  This handy single-cup brewer uses K-cups to brew a perfect cup every time.  The Keurig allows you to brew over 70 varieties of gourmet coffees and teas.  The reservoir holds 48 ounces of water to allow several cups of coffee or tea to be brewed before a refill.

The Keurig K-cups contain a full cup’s worth of coffee or tea in an easy to use container.  There are no coffee grinds or tea leaves to handle so cleanup is quick and easy.  Thanks to the patented Keurig technology, you can brew either a 7 or 9 ounce cup of coffee in under a minute.  The Keurig hold either regular or travel sized mugs, and will shut off automatically after two hours — a great safety feature.

If you like regular flavored tea or coffee, you can buy a reusable coffee filter that fits in the Keurig.  This allows you to brew using you own brand of ground coffee or tea to save money and brew at a varied strength, based on the amount of coffee grounds you use.  The Keurig also functions as a quick hot-water heater, allowing you to heat a cup of water for tea bags, or to make a cup of instant soup or hot chocolate.

Kuerig makes an assortment of models that allow you to make varied sized cups of coffee, hold more water, or that come with different features.

Many people might wonder how a cup of coffee from the Keurig tastes.  LibraryPiper gives the following review on Amazon:

After several years of laboring over our home coffee machine for mediocre coffee, or waiting in line to spend $$$$ at our local coffeehouse, my husband and I began to consider coffee as just an occasional treat. However, I gave the Keurig B-40 to my husband as a gift, and not a single day has gone by that we have not enjoyed it! It is so easy – just pop in the k-cup, press the brew button, and you have a great cup of coffee or tea. It is perfect for us – we drink about two cups each day with no mess or fuss. The coffee is great – lots of variety in the choices.

And Chuck gave the following review (although it was on the larger B-70 model:

I like coffee from Starbucks, to give you a point of reference. I typically drink their regular (not bold roast) with cream and sugar. I do not drink ‘cheap’ coffee – I hate it. At home we use an old fashioned percolator which can make some strong stuff. We grind our own beans fresh. What I expected from this machine was a convenient, maybe tolerable, maybe not tolerable cup of coffee.  The first cup was a bold serving and it was actually good, almost as good as the percolator. Really surprising.  Definitely would recommend this unit.

So join me for a cup of coffee!  Order your Keurig B40 Elite Gourmet Single-Cup Home-Brewing System today!

Kindle is the Gift That Keeps on Giving!

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

By now, pretty much everyone has heard of the Kindle.  But what do you know about it?

For many people, the extent of that knowledge is that it allows you to read a book on an electronic tablet.  Many know that you can also download books over a wireless system.  But that is where most people’s knowledge ends.  We’re here to share a bit more about the Kindle, and to gather comments from people who have used them.

First, there is the size and weight.  This isn’t a very big or heavy unit — especially for all the neat stuff packed inside!  At just about 8″ x 5″ x 1/2″, and weighing less than most paparback books, this is a very comfortable unit to hold and carry.

The screen features a non-glare finish that allows reading even in sunlight.  And it allows some things that books just don’t provide:

  • The Kindle will read the book to you using text-to-voice technology
  • You can increase the size of the print or pictures to make them easier to read
  • Don’t know what a word means?  Just hover over the word and the definition shows at the bottom of the Kindle.
  • The Kindle remembers where you left off.  No lost page markers!
  • You can bookmark, search, and annotate any book on the fly

The Kindle will hold up to 1,500 books in memory, and it will download most books in 60 seconds!  That is lightling FAST!

You have access to a selection of over 360,000 books, and can upload them at the beach or about anywhere you’d like without needing a wired connection.

The Kindle will run for as long as two weeks on a single charging.  Try that with you laptop!  Even with the wireless on, it will last for four days.

When I studied the reviews on Amazon for the Kindle, I found that without a doubt, most users really loved their Kindle.  They bragged about many of the features.  The overwhelming majority voted them 4- or 5-stars.

Overall, there is a huge base of support for the Kindle.  If you are an avid reader, I think it is a great addition to your library.
